Blind and insect mesh installation
I would highly recommend this company, Sarah was so good and helpful at arranging the appointment, explaining clearly of what to expect on the day of the visit , and then Bernie was on time , so professional, skilled, trustworthy, and friendly . Thanks for making the experience stress free for me , and affordable, as this was a challenging skylight, with no easy access.

Roman and roller blinds FAQs
Written by The Shutter Shop team · Updated October 2026
What is a Roman blind?
Roman blinds are a window treatment made of fabric that folds up into pleats when raised. Our Fabric Roman blinds, available in a variety of styles and fabrics, are handmade to suit your window.
How are Roman blinds operated?
Our Roman blinds are available with a side winder chain or can even be electrically operated. Which system suits you best depends on your window and how you'd like to control it, and our specialist can talk you through the options during a free survey.
Which fabrics can I choose from?
We work with a number of suppliers for Roman and roller blinds, including Fabric Box and Louvolite. Our specialist can bring samples to your free home survey, so you can see the fabrics in your own light before you decide.
Can you make a blind from my own fabric?
Yes. If you have your own fabric, we can still create the blind.
What are roller blinds best for?
Roller blinds offer a tidy, space saving, discreet option for the shading and filtering of light, or can be used as an ideal foil for decorative finishes. We have a selection of more statement fabrics you can choose, or you can always use your own fabric to make your roller blinds too.
Which roller blind mechanisms are available?
Roller blinds can be supplied on a standard side winder, slow rise spring roller, spring-tensioned rollers for period properties, electrical operation or a battery-operated option. Your specialist can talk you through which mechanism suits your window during a free survey.
Are there roller blinds for period properties?
Yes. Spring tensioned rollers are available for period properties.
Can Roman blinds go in a bathroom?
Roman blinds can look good in bathrooms too. Our specialist will advise on the right fabric for the room during your survey.
Can you measure and fit them for me?
Yes. Book a free home survey and one of our specialists will measure your windows and talk you through the options. We measure and fit across London and the Home Counties; if you live outside the areas our Measure & Fit service covers, you can book a video survey instead.
How long are blinds guaranteed for?
Our blinds are guaranteed for one year. If you'd like to see fabrics in your own light before you decide, we can bring samples to your free home survey.
How much do Roman and roller blinds cost?
We don't publish a fixed price per square metre for Roman or roller blinds online, unlike our plantation shutters, and we don't currently offer them through our online DIY shop. The cost depends on your window size, the fabric you choose and how the blind operates, so the most accurate way to get a price is a free home survey: one of our specialists measures your windows, talks you through fabrics and operating systems, and gives you an accurate quotation. Site surveys are free of charge within the M25 and home counties.
Roman blinds or roller blinds: which should I choose?
Roman blinds are a window treatment made of fabric that folds up into neat pleats when raised, giving soft, tailored folds and a wide choice of fabrics, including your own fabric if you have it. Roller blinds offer a tidy, space saving, discreet option for the shading and filtering of light, or can be used as an ideal foil for decorative finishes, with a wider range of operating mechanisms including options for period properties. Both are made to measure, with manual and electric options to suit every window. If you're not sure which is right for your room, book a free survey and our specialist will cover fabrics, operating systems and the right blind for each room.
