This cookie policy explains what cookies are, which cookies and similar technologies this website uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. It applies to www.shuttershop.co.uk and is published by The Shutter Shop Ltd, 102 Waterford Road, London, SW6 2HA, company number 02178434. It should be read alongside our privacy policy, which explains how we look after personal information you give us.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit. It lets the site recognise your device from one page to the next, so that features such as a shopping cart can work. Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other companies whose content appears on the site, such as an embedded video, are called third-party cookies.
Websites can also use browser storage, which works in a similar way to a cookie but is never sent back to the server. Where we use it, it is listed below.
How this website uses cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. The cookies we set ourselves are strictly necessary: they exist only so that the shopping cart, checkout and administration area work correctly. They do not track you across other websites, build a profile of you or serve advertising.
With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site: which pages are read, how people arrive and where they leave. These analytics cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner, as UK law requires, and you can withdraw consent at any time from the banner’s settings. We do not use advertising or social-media cookies.
Cookies we set
| Cookie | What it does | When it is set | How long it lasts |
|---|
__Host-shutter_cart | Remembers which shopping cart is yours while you design and buy shutters online. It holds only a random cart reference, never your name, address or card details. | You add a shutter or blind to your cart. | 30 days, or as soon as your order is complete. |
d1_bookmark | Makes sure that the next page you see reflects a change you have just made, for example an item added to your cart. It is a technical marker with no personal data in it. | You submit a form or change your cart. | 24 hours. |
__Host-shutter_admin_session and __Host-shutter_admin_csrf | Keep our own staff signed in to the site administration area and protect it against forged requests. These are never set for customers. | A member of The Shutter Shop team signs in. | 12 hours. |
All of these cookies are first-party, are only sent over a secure (HTTPS) connection and cannot be read by scripts running in your browser. None of them contains personal data.
Browser storage we use
If you close a promotional banner on the site, we store a small note in your browser’s session storage so the same banner does not reappear while you continue browsing. The note holds nothing but the name of the banner, is never sent to us, and is deleted automatically when you close the browser tab.
Prices and measurements you enter in the online shutter designer are sent to our server to calculate your quote and are stored only in your cart. We do not keep them in your browser.
Third-party content that may set cookies
Some pages include content provided by other companies. We do not control the cookies these companies set, and their use is governed by their own privacy policies, linked below.
| Service | Where it appears | What it may do | Provider’s policy |
|---|
| Google Maps | The showroom maps on our home page and contact page. | The map is loaded from Google. When it loads, Google may set its own cookies and record your IP address. | Privacy policy |
| YouTube | Product and installation videos on our video and range pages. | Videos are embedded from YouTube. When you press play, YouTube may set cookies to remember your preferences and measure views. | Privacy policy |
| Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics | Every page, after you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner. | Tag Manager loads our analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, kept for up to 2 years) to tell returning visitors from new ones and to measure page views. No analytics cookies are set until you consent. | Privacy policy |
| Google Fonts | Every page. | The typeface used on this site is loaded from Google Fonts. Google states that the Fonts service does not set cookies, although your browser does send a request to Google to fetch the font files. | Privacy policy |
| Opayo (Elavon) | The payment step of online checkout. | Card payments are taken on Opayo’s own secure page, not on this site. Opayo sets the cookies it needs to process your payment safely and never shares your card details with us. | Privacy policy |
Links to our review profiles on Google, Trustpilot and Checkatrade, and to our trade association and partner websites, are plain links. Those sites only set cookies once you have left this website and arrived on theirs.
How to control cookies
You can allow, block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies on their own while keeping first-party cookies, which is the setting we recommend if you want to limit tracking by other companies but still use our online designer. These guides explain how:
If you block all cookies, you can still read every page of this site, request a survey, ask for a brochure and contact us. You will not be able to keep items in a cart or complete an online order, because the cart cookie is what links your items to you. You can always order by phone on 0207 751 0937 instead.
Independent guidance on cookies and your rights is available from the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page whenever the cookies or services used on the site change, and the date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes, such as the introduction of analytics or advertising cookies, will also be announced on the site before they take effect.
