Before you start
Your order card, attached to your delivery, gives you a full breakdown of the items needed to install the shutters. The accuracy of the survey or measurements preceding confirmation is instrumental to a quick and straightforward installation: if a shutter has been measured incorrectly, additional work may be required at the point of installation.
For each shutter there will usually be one box containing the frame profiles or battens and another containing the panels (larger shutter sets will have multiple boxes). Each box is labelled on its end with the shutter set dimensions and the location from the order card. You will also find a ‘hardware’ box with the essential items for fixing your shutters together.
Before you start, make sure that when fitted, the louvres are not prevented from opening by obstructions.

It is very easy to install your new shutters if they have been measured accurately. Each delivery comes with an order card that gives you a full breakdown of the items needed, every box is labelled with the shutter set dimensions and location, and the hardware box contains the essential fixings. We recommend a selection of flat head and Philips screwdrivers, a spirit level and tape measure, gauge screws, an electronic chop saw or fine bladed hack saw and mitre block, filler and builders chalk, a nylon headed hammer, a selection of wood and masonry drill bits, a countersinking drill bit and pliers.
Full height, tier-on-tier and café-style shutters can be designed and bought online through our DIY service. Due to the complexity of measuring and installation, bay window shutters, shaped window shutters and tracking system shutters are not available through our online ordering system; please contact our team for advice and a personalised quotation.
Your DIY shutters are handcrafted to your specifications and delivered directly to your door. Standard DIY lead times are typically around 7–9 weeks. Before manufacturing begins we send you an order confirmation so you can check every detail.
Accurate measurements are essential, because every shutter is made to measure and incorrect measurements can result in fitting issues and additional costs. Download our measuring guide before you order, and if you are not confident measuring, book a free survey and let our team measure for you.

Each box your shutters are delivered in is labelled on its end with the shutter set dimensions and the room or window location from your order card. This makes it easy to match each box to the right window before you start fitting, especially if you have ordered for several rooms.
Yes. Both our framed and batten fitting methods can be fixed inside or outside the recess, depending on your window and the look you want. Fitting inside the recess keeps the shutter flush with the wall, while fitting outside can suit a window with a shallow or uneven reveal and sill.
A Hoffman key is a small nylon fixing, included in your hardware box, that locks each corner joint of the shutter frame together. Fitting it correctly at every corner keeps the frame square and rigid before you hang the panels, so it is an important early step to get right.
If the leading panels do not meet correctly once hung, loosen the screws in the elongated holes on the frame or batten hinges, raise or lower the end panels until they align, then retighten the screws to lock them in place. This adjustment works for both framed and batten fitting methods.
